Looks like a 590A1 and a Wingmaster had a love child. I wonder why they weren't more popular? Price point?

My understanding is that the 916 had "issues" and were dropped from the S&W line after a while.

S&W later introduced the Model 3000 which was built by Howa for them I think. The 3000 was a much more popular model than the 916 and were bought by a number of police agencies like the OPP and Winnipeg Police Department among others. I had a couple of these and they were excellent.
