first off I am new to AR's, so I just don't know. Looking at irunguns site they have some nice looking US made colts available, and got me thinking what is the difference. The SA15.7 I know has a Canadian made heavy barrel with a thick chrome lining because of the cold it may have to deal with (Read the Caliber magazine article) but not sure what other differences there are vs the US colts available, please some educate me a little.

Note the SA15.7 is something I do really want to get my hands on but cant get it tell my bonus cash hits and that's not for months so it depends if one is left at the time gerrrr

and I have read through all the threads on SA15.7, including the 30 odd closed one of is it worth the cash. Not interested in the cash or anything just the differences.

I asked a similar question and this was answer from Colt Canada.

They are made from the same forging and have a continuous top rail, then most of the similarities end.

The Colt Canada IUR does not have a removable bottom rail and breaches from the front. GL recoil is managed with a lug at the rear of the bottom rail and a GL would attach directly to the bottom rail. 6940 series rifles have a removable bottom rail.

The CC rails are NATO STANAG 4694, not MIL-STD-1913 or Weaver.

The CC IUR uses a proprietary barrel nut and gas tube and gas block, but uses the standard barrel extension allowing for parts commonality and a wider number of available barrels.

Most versions of the IUR the receiver is longer and covers the gas block and there are no integral iron sights. The receiver ventilation is also very different.

The CC IUR has a steel insert for the cocking handle latch to allow for extended cocking handle use without the accompanying wear.

There are also a number of minor dimensional and material changes.

And of course the IUR is made in Canada.

There likely will not be any commercial production until well into 2015 as production scheduling is very tight at the moment. [/CODE] Once the commercial versions are approved all the details will be released here.

So there IUR is the Cdn monolithic platform, the C7 & C8 don't have that continuous rail.
The 6940 is the Colt USA monolithic rail, and the 6920 has the removable hand guards like the C7 & C8

The SA15.7 is the commercial version of the CAF's C8A3 and Colt Canada's exported Special Forces Weapon used by several NATO countries including the UK SF.

The LE6920 is the commercial version of the US M4. The LE6940 is the US M4 version with a continuous upper receiver.

There are lots of differences, the key one being that the SA15.7 is a special limited edition commemorative model. It has several special accessories such as a branded Franzen magwell lock and an OTIS cleaning kit.

The SA15.7 is produced in Canada in a much smaller facility that produces about 1/10th of Colt's rifle production in the US. The Canadian rifles are made under licence, however there is a completely different official Canadian Technical Data Package TDP that the rifles are made to. Every rifle is test fired, for example, but the accuracy requirement is for largest groups to be less than half the size of Colt's largest groups. Most Canadian dimensions are the same or fall entirely within US tolerances. Our material specifications meet or exceed every US MILSPEC. We have a more in depth quality program and government inspectors as well.

The maple leaf and the Diemaco "D" are roll stamped on the side of the receiver. The parts are manufactured in Canada, assembled in Canada and supported in Canada with full factory and warranty support. (In turn Colt Canada supports CGN, NFA, CSSA, and the DCRA)

The barrels are cold rotary hammer forged, and feature an integrally forged chamber (meaning we forge it with the bore to ensure concentricity) and an improved chamber design to enhance reliability. The 15.7 barrel is a sleeved barrel with a pre-hardened sleeve to allow the fitting of the M203A1. It is a heavy profile barrel to allow better performance in high temperatures and a more rigid barrel. The furniture and components (such as the receiver extension nut) are Canadian and differ from the US models. The SA15.7 also uses M4 feed ramps and Picatinny rails to allow for a wider range of commercial ammunition and optics.

There is lots of technical Q&A here as well: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1126440-General-Product-Discussion
