SA20 upper - strip it down, or sell as-is?

Guys,

Came into possession of a unfired complete SA20 upper a few years back, and only put about 100 rounds down the pipe. I have other AR's, so this one is more or less just to have a 20" AR. :)

I bought a stripped set of Maccabee SLR upper/lower today, and wondered if it's worth it to strip down the SA20 and use it on the SLR build? I won't say what I have into the SA20 upper (it's low) - but trying to see if it's worth it to use a nice Colt BCG and 20" Govt Profile A2 barrel on an SLR build?

I'm guessing the complete untouched upper is worth more than the sum of it's parts - but no idea what an SA20 upper goes for today... can't find any for sale in the EE.

Thoughts? Alternative barrel ideas? Odin Arms any good?

Thanks!

I don't understand the problem about not wanting to use it on the SLR receiver. It's not like you're going to ruin it taking it apart and reassembling it onto the SLR.

All you have to do is punch out the gas tube roll pin to remove gas tube and you can get everything apart and put it on the SLR receiver.

Since you already own the SA20 upper and it's already used you have nothing to lose by using it on the SLR.

If you try it for a while and find that you don't like it on the SLR simply reassemble the Colt upper and sell it if you want.

Oh i know it won't damage it - but many people view a 'factory built' upper differently than one put together in a gun room. :) Even if it is just re-assembling.

I did just that, I used a full SA20 on my SLR. I'm assuming if you are looking for the "top dollar" for your upper, selling it fully assembled would be best. But I'd argue using those parts on your SLR is worth the minor hit you may take.

The SA upper doesn't have feed ramp cut AFAIR - so unless it is mated to another CC barrel, it is a bit useless in the open market as pretty much all barrels at least from the US has the M4 cut standard......unless someone wants to transplant a surplus C8 barrelled upper to make a flattop C8 upper.

There is no issue installing an M4 feed ramp barrel into a non ramped upper.

I do like the idea of using it for a flattop C8

The SA20 have M4 feed ramps.
