I just bought a Remington 870. Smooth bore with a modified choke. My question is can I shoot a sabot slug with a mod choke or should I be removing it?

In a smooth bore should you not be using a rifled slug? AFAIK a sabot slug down a smooth bore will not deliver much for accuracy. If your choke is removable (sounds like it isnt) you could fit a rifled choke and shoot a sabot.

Why not just shoot rifled slugs (Win, Rem or Brenneke style) which will be a good choice in your mod choke smooth bore?

Winchester makes a Rackhammer and Rem make a Buckmaster (or something of the sort) which you can use in either rifled or smooth barrels.I get pretty good accuracy with them in both a Rem 870 rifled barrel and a Browning BPS with Imp Cyl choke. Given that I'm partial to big chunks of lead, I'd rather sacrifice a little bit of accuracy (and it really isn't much) in my rifled barrel and toss an ounce of lead rather than a wimpy 250 gr. bullet.
