sabot slugs from a smooth bore

at close range(up to 30yards) will a sabot fly strait enough to expand i would like to use that as camp defence becuse i beleve the sabot bullet is tougher. and how are those remington buckhammer rounds.

Not sure if this will help as I do not recall the brands we used but we tried some from a smooth 30 inch barrel with a modified choke. We found they would "key hole" a bit inside even inside of 30 yards and compared to the traditional slugs wasn't impressive. With the rifled barrel they were great.
