Saddle ring

I'm a fan and user of "bush rifles" and just generally speaking prefer a shorter barrel (and the driver for this preference could well be aesthetics).

At some point in the future a Winchester 94 or a Marlin 336 will find it's way to my safe although I'm leaning towards the Marlin.

If I was to purchase a 94 I'd most certainly hold out for a trapper model.

I'm trying to imagine however why I would leave the saddle ring. I understand it's original purpose (at least I believe I do) and I imagine it would reduce resale value for me to remove it however practically speaking it would seem to me to be simply something to snag things and or rattle on my rifle.

Besides "blasphemy" is there a good reason to leave it ?

Unless you hunt on a horse, I can't see any reason, if you'd like to trade or sell it let me know.

They are just screwed on, remove it and put it in a safe place, Then you can always put it back on if you ever want to.

Most guys tie a piece of leather lace to the saddle ring to prevent it from rattling around, It looks cool too.

Spin it off and put it away if it bugs you.

it is only the newer models that are screwed on. Keep that in mind purchasing. On older models the stud is peened on so you have to cut the ring off and are left with the stud.

You could also use it as a single point sling mount for those "tacti-cool" deer hunting days.

I actually like the look of a saddle ring. I replaced the crossbolt safety on my Marlin 45-70 with one. Purely aesthetics
