Went to the site. What exactly do you mean by SCI opening shop in Canada? I couldn't find anything on there that was out of the ordinary, but maybe I didn't look in the right place.
I used to be a member at one time. What I found was that the SCI was into all High priced hunts way above the Normal and average hunter in Ontario. Most of the reading I got was africa and places that I really did not want to hunt. I'm not knocking them , just I found that they were more aimmed towards the high price rollers then the average joe ...BT
I've belonged for many years and I am an official scorer.................I have some real beefs though with some aspects of the organization.
What I am trying to find out here is what the poster is talking about. There have been chapters of SCI in Canada for many years........so not sure what SCI is opening shop means. Guess I'll have to e-mail and find out.
Safari club has hired me to begin chapter development in Canada their plan is to open an office in the Ottawa area next year if I can show that We have the potential for growth in Canada. the benefits of being a chapter are huge if you want to become invovled in your community with conservation and or hunting polotics. Each chapter keeps 70% of the funds raised of thier largest event yearly and 100% of any other event within that year. this money can be spent on such things as conservation or anything which meets the bylaws. They are a hunting organization as well as a conservation group. As far as it being for the elite hunters I am not bringing that to Canada however there is the elite hunting that is part of the organization for sure. I was the former regional director for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and I am here to tell you that the average Joe is and will be a huge part of SCI in Canada and abroad. I hoipe thius clears up any confusion. If anyone is interested in getting involved contact me. If you know of a group and want to start a chapter I will come out and put on a presentation to let you decide. We need your help and we want to protect hunting in Canada as well as the wildlife here.
Best regards Jason St. Michael

I think that's great that SCI is trying to organizew more up here. While there is certainly an eliter Trophy aspect to it, it is also the world's largest hunters organization. Can't hurt to have a lobby group.
Yes that is the same group there is a group in Ontario the Ontario chapter which we want to expand on. there is also a group in Calgary and edmonton as well one in BC. I hope to get at least 10 more chapters started across Canada this year. This organization can be what ever the independant chapters make of it. I am going to start two chapters this month one in the Pembroke area and one in the Almonte area. anyone wishing to become invovled can contact me sci-canada@rogers.com
If you are looking for avid hunter's in the Pembroke area
try Jim, the owner of the Home Hardware in Deep River, they have there own club called the Parkline Sportsmens club, I was a member until I moved out west.
