Safety course for 3-Gun?

I've never attended a 3 gun shoot, but as far as I know there are no safety course for 3 guns. I pretty sure that the only requirement is that you are holster certified. eg. IPSC, IDPA, PPC etc.etc., but it would be nice to have some sort of clinic for 3 or 4 gun shoot in Ontario.

I'm fairly sure IPSC three gun requires the black badge.

I think I have seen other 3 gun matches specify a holster certification....IN michigan though....no such requirement.

The IPSC black badge is sufficient traing proof at the moment to shoot in IPSC 3 gun matches. That said there is a move afoot on some stages to introduce rifle and shotgun training programs.

I've attended many (not IPSC) 3-gun shoots and although there's never been a 3-gun safety course mentioned we all seem to get by.

Follow the four universal rules of gun safety and really... What more safety trainging does one need?

The 4 rules apply equally to handguns/shotguns/rifles

Did you miss out on the fact that there are now components for 3 gun for R/O courses.
.

That's a far cry from training requirements for shooters...

The 3 gun component for officials started 3ish years ago (one of our RM's attended an International training course) There's been little interest since. The International Interest was likely as a result in preparing for the IPSC 3 gun World Championships (I'm not even sure if that match happened)

There used to be Shotgun and rifle specific training and certification in Ontario (not sure about the other Sections)...it was sometime in the mid to late 80's (Mr Clean could probably give an actual date) It died a quick death over a decade ago...

There's still not enough participation to get anyones attention regarding more certification (which I personally think is unnecessary)

If the match is an IPSC 3 gun match, then all you need is to be a current IPSC member..

You DO NOT need a black badge.. the black badge is only a Canadian thing. any foreign IPSC member can come shoot the match without taking any "certification course" of any kind. any local member would automatically have the BB, but lets not forget that it's just a Canadian requirement.

Actually, the training was still going on in the '90s and it covered alot of stuff like movement, malfunctions and getting into and out of the different shooting positions. On the shotgun portion it dealt with all of the above plus change-ups from shot to slug and a good portion of both were timed to push the students a bit.
Muzzle discipline was a big part of it, which made for more aware shooters.
There was also a numbered black badge for it as well.
Let the s****storm begin.:)

IPSC three gun matches consist of separate handgun, shotgun and rifle events (stages) that are combined to form a larger event.

These are similar but not exactly the same as "Multigun" matches in which competitors use 1, 2 or 3 firearms to finish a stage.
