A teenager was taken to Campbellford Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon after being shot while hunting.
Peterborough County OPP say the 17-year-old from Havelock was with a group near County Rd. 46 in Havelock-Belmont-Methuen when the shooting occurred.
It happened at about 12:30 p.m. at a hunting camp near Fire Route 76, police say.
The boy was shot in the shoulder by another hunter in his group.
Paramedics brought the boy out of the woods and took him to the Campbellford hospital. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening, police say.
The OPP is working with the Ministry of Natural Resources in the investigation.

A few weeks ago I was at the Range, someone beside us who by nature of their career should have above basic firearm skills. While loading his 12g, he had the butt sitting on his Leg and placed the first round in the mag tube. He chambered the round to fill the Mag tube while having a finger in the trigger guard.

Sure enough the gun fired the round off, no muzzle control, no safety, and no respect for the gun. And then acted like it wasn't that big of a deal with a grin.

I feel for all those who are injured in this way.

Stories like the one that EcoHeliGuy mentioned and that fella in New York are just more proof that you can't regulate stupid.

I just find it so hard to believe the number of people I have met that seem to take firearms safety for granted. It is actually the reason I gave up the hunting- guiding business years ago when a chance to do so came my way. I spent a couple seasons working on a pheasant game farm as a guide and dog handler. When the place was offered to me for a song I turned it down. I just found too many of the guys seemed to rely on the gun's safety. If I had a dime for every time I heard " the safety is on" when someone would swing a muzzle my way I would have enough to buy a decent gun!!
There is no going back after the shot is fired!!!
