I'm looking for some help.

I just ordered an EGE Arms E40S O/U. Its my 1st double Barrel and I'm not familiar with how the Barrel selection and Safety selection works. Its still enroute so I'm going in what I've seen online, but it looks like there's a safety switch behind the action release that moves forward and back left and forward snd backwards right.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

O/U's with their two barrels generally have two chokes, either fixed from the factory or screw-in that is user changeable. In most hunting situations the target/s on the first shot are usually close with the second shot farther away. The first and closer shot is from the bottom barrel, the bottom barrel has the more open choke. Less muzzle rise is produced from the bottom than the top barrel which keeps the gun on target for a quicker second shot.

The shooter uses the barrel selector to choose which choke/barrel is best suited for the first shot. If the only available target is longer distance it might be a waste to fire the more open choke, the shooter makes the decision with a flick of the switch.

I much prefer the Krieghoff/Blaser setup, with barrel selector in front of trigger, and safety by itself. This eliminates the selector being part way between settings, as I have seen a few times when a shotgun wouldn't fire. But at least Browning, Krieghooff and Blaser don't have the idiotic auto safety., used by some manufacturers.
