Is he making replicas or does he seem to have a supply of originals?

(Just curious. I don't have a rifle for it. But if I thought I could get one of those it might influence me when the chance of getting the rifle comes up.)

Couldn't tell you but the one i got from him was stamped with a 7 on the back side like my 7mm SAFN 49 is on the top inner reciever so i would say yes they are originals if that is what everyone else is recieving.

I have an Argentine FN49 and would like to buy this mount. Can you explain how it attaches to the receiver and if any modifications have to be made to the gun and of what material is it made?

I would love to have a scope mounted in this gun since it is very accurate just with its open sights, but wouldn't want to alter it in any way.

Thanks

I have this mount for the Venezuelan (got it from this guy in France 2yrs ago) and will be putting the rifle and mount on the EE shortly.
If someone wants to buy the mount separately I can do that.
As far as I know it only fits the Venezuelans or an FN-49 sniper.

You have to have the dove tail machined into the left side of the receiver [ factory machined ] the Venezuelan, 30-06, and some 8mm Egyptian rifles have it only or your drilling and tapping not something I would do even more so on yours not to many out there if yours is the 7.62 model [ converted from 7.65 ]

Thanks Maxinumarmor for the info. My Fn 49 seems to have a dovetail lenghtwise in the left side of the receiver. It is very shallow but I think it might be able to hold that mount.

You are right my FN 49 is a 7.62 conversion from 7.65x53 and it is dead accurate and realible with almost any load I use.

A few years back in a trip to Argetnina I was fortunate enough to buy a FN 49 in its original 7.65mm caliber and also a FN Fal in 7.65 that must have been one of the first trial contracs. I haven't been abe to bring them to Canada yet. The FAL I will never be able to bring unless the law is changed, but the FN 49 Will soon be joining my collection.

You got yourself a real rare rife there if it has the dove tail cut into it I never heard of the 7.62 conversions coming with it hang on to it you have the best of the best there adding the scope mount will top it off.
As for the Fal rifle another rare piece if you deactivated it to Canadian standards :( I don't see why you couldn't bring it over also.

I would like to see some pictures of your FN 49 when you get it most likely the only time I will see one I have been looking in Canada and have seen one in 10 years [ 7.62 ] but even more so with the dove tail......

Cheers

The FN 49 in 7,62mm is the one that I have here in Canada and although the wood is not so nice, the gun seemed to have been shot very little. I will get some pictures and post them for you too see. Maybe what seems to me like a shallow dovetail is not what you are talking about, either way I will like to know for sure before I fork out a couple of hundred bucks in the base.

This is my Argentine FN 49:

It looks like you don't have the dove tail it would be cut in right where the name is on the left side and that name would be on the right side your only choice would be a mount that replaces the dust cover/back site or you would have to drill and tap the left flat where the name is.
Your rifle looks fine remember they were well used before they hit the surplus market. There was very few also converted.

Thank you Maxinumarmor for your help, I was about to buy the base thinking that it would fit in that lengthwise slot on the left side of the receiver. I guess I will leave it as it is.
