I'm in the process of stripping the Sage chassis off of my norinco in order to put it up on the equipment exchange but I am scratching my head as to the best way to get the op rod guide off the barrel without damaging it. Any thoughts on the best method? I was going to try heating things up with a heat gun and then try and work it off with a rubber mallet but if there are any better ideas out there..

Cheers.

Heat is a great idea if its on there good... wipe the barrel with oil, then wrap a cold wet rag around it, heat block as fast as you can, knock it off with block and mallet...do it it a quick as possible.

My method requires a barrel vise. I place the action in a barrel vise and use a large wrench or crescent wrench to turn the operating rod guide and work it off. Works best if you have a friend to put a crow bar between the vise and the operating rod guide to apply pressure while you rotate it.

I've done this with a SAGE and a Blackfeather operating rod guide before.

Tony.
