Thinking about M14. Knowing me it won't stay in its original form for long. I want it to be good, sub MOA pleasant to shoot rifle with good handling. SAGE stock comes to mind as possibly best-looking dress up kit. I tried running search through these boards but all results were leading somehwere else. So, I need first hand info who sells them in Canada, what is fair price, any flaws with them. And if they are suitable for building accurate rig. Thax beforehand :sniper:

I'm sure the big dealers could bring one in for you. I sold one I purchased off a private seller, $850.

there have been reliability issues with the chopmod from guys i know who have used them but.... I'm sure others will disagree.
Marstar offers thier version of the sage type stock and fellow gun nutters who have them seem to really like em. Do a search in main battle rifles for marstar stock or maybe one of the mods can find the link to that thread and post it.
here is the link to the marstar product page.

You may also want to look at the JAE 100 stock. I love mine and plan on getting one for my Rem 700 when they come out. (Supposedly this summer)

Hmmmmmm..........This is the first I heard of reliability issues................I had one of the first Chopmod Sages in Canada and never had any problems..............the only issue I can think of, is that they didn't "shim" the gap between the op rod guide retaining pin and the side of the stock...........that would cause reliability issues if that pin keeps walking out...............

But the drawback to the Sage is that it is heavy and you fell like you are packing around a boat anchor................

That's a new one on me, I know of no reliability issues - none ... please post details.

As Skullboy mentioned the only known issue with the SAGE is the added weight.
This issue can be reduced a great deal if you go with the M14ALCS/CV CQB M14
EBR Tactical Aluminum Chassis Stock with M4/M16 style receiver extension tube.

These Chop Mod EBR stocks are a few pounds lighter than the original EBR.

Like SKBY stated weight is an issue. Unless you're only looking at bench shooting then you need to consider weight.

Personally I use the "but can I junt with it" rule when buying anything gun related. For me practicality is an issue cause there are sand pits more convenient for me then the local ranges.

Skullboy/H2O man.... i have a few friends down south who have the chopmod and 2 out of the 5 had issues with the block that anchors the recoil guide.... after about 1500 rounds. Maybe it was thier installation, I dunno. I myself have not done much shooting with a sage equiped rifle but they are pretty damn tacticool

weight is not an issue for me, I routinely ballast rifles anyway. Can't browse links from cellphone - will have to wait till I get home. Thanx everybody.

I wonder if they installed that block backwards?????................it has to bolt in a specific way or things don't fit properly..........

If the stock reciever is put together properly, torqued to specs, and lock-tited, then there should be no issues.............

There are three threaded holes on the replacement op rod guide used to hold the barreled action in the SAGE stock, and not all of them are the same distance from where they intersect with the op rod. Some of the SAGE stocks ship with two different bolt lengths, and it's easy to mix them up. If the longer bolt is used in the wrong hole, it can impinge on the op rod, and sometimes not by much but enough to give grief. Make sure the long bolt gets used in the deeper hole and everything should be a-ok.

I had forgotten about the different length bolts.................I will bet that that this is the problem............;)

Just checked Marstar for that sage-style stock. They are 675$ but with no butts and butts are sold separately and sold out. I wonder if I can buy those stock butts somewhere else?
