I bought a Sako AV 300 WInny a few months ago, it has been slightly frustrating to date. The gun was in just about perfect condition when I got it, but it was the only Sako I've owned that wouldn't shoot MOA.
First I free floated the Walnut stock, that helped a bit, played with 168 gr TSX's at .050 off the lands with H4831sc and H1000, they shot better than Hornady spirepoints, but still 1.5 inches.
Took CR-10 to the barrel to remove any remaining copper, that helped a bit more. Started playing with seating depth, even though Barnes suggests .050 I got some better result with the same powder at .030 off the lands.
Switched out the stock for a McMillan fibreglass job(bought for RSI here on CGN) that helped a bit more. I was surprised to find the McMillan stock weighs the same as the walnut one (900 grams) and reduces recoil by a considerable margin.
Today I loaded some with reloder 22 only .020 off the lands and Bingo
7 groups starting with 74 gr, then 75 and 76 only one groups over an inch at 1.3. The 7 groups averaged .802. I haven't chronographed these loads, but I think I am going to keep going closer and see what happens, maybe these TSX's like being right into the rifling. I don't expect to have super high velocity, but if it's even close to 3100 fps I'm going to slay me some unfortunate ungulates.
