Sako 75 6.5x55

Check www.sako.fi and look under specs.
My best group, so far, has been with the 140 grain Hornady Interlocks in a 6.5 x 55 Sako 75 (Hunter). This bullet produced a sub-one inch (more like 5/8") group at 200 yards (three shot group). Haven't tried 160's yet, but I would expect good performance. The rifle is awesome.

I flirted a litlle with the interlock and hated Hornady for no making an interbond in 6.5.
got my hopes high for a second today..... walked into a store and found some Norma 6.5x55 on a high shelf. 24.99 per box. My heart was pounding.... but only for short.... it wasn't Oryx what the box had inside.... Ballistic tips..... Arghhhh!!!
I got the 160s and some remington bulk.
Must one look at the 130gr triple shock or 140 Partition for adequate penetration on moose?
Anyone used them..???
I have taken a variety of game with a model 38 Swede over a period of years, and feel that a 6.5 should be able to handle the heavy-for-diameter bullets they acheived their reputation with.
I have some reservations about using Barnes bullets in a 6.5x55, not because they aren't good bullets, but simply because with thier modest starting velocity, I don't know at what range the bullet will properly expand.
I also happen to own several hundred 154 grain Norma Oryx bullets.

Not with the 6.5, but I have killed at least two or three moose with the 139 grain Hornady Spire Points in 7mm (out of a 7 x 57 ) They were all chest-shot and died within a few steps of where they were hit (I've never had one wander off).
As I recall, the recovered bullets did shed a fair bit of their weight, but penetration, if not complete, was to the far side of the chest cavity with at least two or three recovered bullets under the skin on the far side.
I would expect the 6.5mm bullet to penetrate well (especially if it's one of the contolled expansion designs). I shot a big-bodied whitetail with the 140 6.5 Hornady Interlock two years ago and the penetration was complete and performance was impressive (buck jumped up, did a 360, folded his legs in the air and dropped dead). Range was around 200 yards.

The Hornady Interlock has an excellent reputation for performance when used at velocities typical of the the 6.5 Swedish. I know one very succesful moose hunter who uses nothing but the Interlock in a .308. A recent and very comprehensive magazine write up dealing with bullet penetration, expansion, and weight retention, showed the Interlock performing at pretty much the same levels as most "premiums" when used at sub 3000 fps velocities. Sorry I can't provide my source for that, as I lent the magazine out and don't recall which publication it was.

Hornady 140 interlocks
I've shot moose with hornady interlocks. 2 were shot through both lungs and out the other side, takeing out a rib on both sides. one at 75 meters and one at 120 meters. Both walked about 20 meters from where they were hit and gently laid down and were dead when I got to them. Both were hit just below the shldr blade and above the heart (i like to eat heart). As stated above, full body penetration and appx 2cm exit wound. Iive said it a lot of times before and will say it again, shot placement is where it's all at. Buy decent bullets for the velocity you intend to shoot and practice at various ranges and you should be OK. On the other hand, take the velocity of the interlock 6.5 x 140grn and boost the velocities over 1000 meters/sec as in the 6.5-06
and it won't stand up to the job at close ranges say 150m and less, it will just expand far to rapidly for reasonable penetration, as I found out on a whitetail at 80m last fall. the bullet blew up and didn't even make it to the second lung, reqireing a second shot to put the little buck down. Out of the 6.5x55 though, with the lower velocities, there shouldn't be any problems at all. bearhunter

I shoot 125 and 140 Partitions out of my M700 Classic in 6.5x55. I get just shy of 2800 with the 140 and right around 2950 with the 125. These penetrate and kill very well. I have shot 2 or 3 moose with the 140, none went beyond 20 yards after the shot, and IIRC, one was shot at a solid 300 yards. I have yet to find a better deer bullet than the 125 Partition. Exits on every deer I have shot, about toonie size, and deer dead on their feet, even if they do run a few yards. Regards, Eagleye.
