Can anyone give some pro's and con's to this gun. I am comparing it to a Kimber 8400. Both guns seam to be really nice. Thoughts / comments??

Although neither is my cup of tea, we have both in the shop, and the Kimber has much nicer wood than any Sako,if wooden stocks are your preference.

Sako 85

I just bought a Sako 85 in a 270 wsm the other day! I outfitted it with a VXIII 2.5 - 8 x 36 and with leupold one piece mounts. I will get a pic later this week. I haven't been able to shoot any rounds but that will be later as well.

I knew the caliber I wanted but needed a gun. I looked at the Browning S/S A bolt, Remington XCR, Kimber Montana, and the Sako in both the 75 and 85. I chose the Sako 85 because it felt right in my hands.

IMO, the Kimber looked good but I didn't like the blind magazine and the stock was too hollow sounding for a synthetic stock compared to the above.

I handled a Model 85 in 300 wsm and didn't care for the stock design or how they designed the box mag ( supposedly so you it doesn't get bumped and fall out of your rifle in the field) so I hunted down a 75 Finnlight and love it!!

Some people reallly like the Kimbers where as some say they don't fit them , personel preference I guess and most likely can be said of Sako's. Kimbers are cheaper by hundred $$ and change but seem to be harder to find in stock( this will probably change in 2007).

I think you can't go wrong with either, pick the one that feels better in your arms. Better yet get one of each and do a product comparison for the rest of us CGN'ers

Cheers!!

Cadillac or Lincoln ... not much to chose from.

Come on, a Lincon (Ford) compared to a Sako.:runaway:

Sorry i have to correct this:

A Cadillac for the ''Proudly made in America'' Kimber.

Or a fine European Audi A8 for the Sako.:)

I'll take the Sako Anyday.

I haven't handled an 85 but if the stock is the same design as the Quad it's a non-starter for me. Felt terrible.

What is the difference between the magazine latch between a 75 and 85. I have a 75 and haven't had any problems with the magazine or the latching system.

This is from the Sako site:

The Total Control Latch (patent pending) of the Sako 85 prevents accidental magazine releases. The magazine can be removed when simultaneously pushed upwards while the latch is pulled back

Seems like some engineer had to much time on his hands, just like that stupid key concept system on the Model 75's
