Sako 85 Carbon Light ?

There is a used one on the EE right now.

dog gone it, I was really hoping to get back to you to say "I owe you a night on the town Bro, guzzling brews and watching rippers all on me", but I can't use it for the same reason that the seller is selling it! It's in the cartridge that I was hoping it to be in, too! I'm all shut down on that model! :(:(:(

I have handled one, for the price, I would install a McMillan Edge on a Finnlight.

please say yes to my question "did you by chance happen to mount the rifle to shoot left handed?". I understand there is a right hand palm swell on these rifles. I am wondering how that feels on this model for the LH shooter. I once had a Browning Stainless Stalker 260 with that right hand palm swell, it was nfg for me, I had to trade it to my youngest son for his 260 Ruger M77 stainless/walnut. Also got the canoe paddle with it.

I am not left handed, so no.

We have the Carbon Light in both .243 and 7mm-08 in stock right now with a few .308s coming down the line. As a LH shooter who has had to adapt to RH guns my whole life I know the struggle! I had a closer look at the palm swells after coming across this thread and sure enough, on the right hand side the swell is ever-so-slightly more pronounced. The rifle, however, does not feel awkward or uncomfortable when held LH. I would even go as far as to say that if you didn't know there was a difference... well, then you wouldn't know! It's a really nice unit and the soft touch carbon handles nicely.

but, but, but there is still that mountain man lop to deal with! Right? Why-O-why did they do that?

Wow, welcome aboard.....................

the Kimber Mountain Ascent comes in at a better price than this Sako, though fewer cartridge options.

then there is the Forbes, which comes in many options and at an even better price than the Kimber.

and if you scrape the bottom of the barrel, so to speak, there is the Savage Lightweight Hunter which comes in both short and long actions, many caliber's and is a good 33% the price of Kimber and about half the price of the Forbes.

$3800 for an 85 wrapped in carbon fibre just isn't worth it IMO. I bought a new Tikka Compact this fall for $650 and picked up a McMillan Edge off the EE for another $600 and have a pretty sweet setup for $1250, will be adding Atlas Worx bottom metal and bolt shroud very shortly also.

All the power to the guys that spend the money for that gun but I would far sooner put something custom together. You can still get new 85's for less than $2000 if you look around, how is a carbon stock worth another $1800?
