Sako 85 ejection problem

Changing the spring made no difference. What I ended up doing was mounting a scope with a 1" tube and smaller turret caps in extra low optilock rings and it runs great now.

I took some slow motion video of it ejecting and the brass was hitting the large windage turret on my Bushnell.

I just moved the Bushnell to my A5 338 win and now have ejection issues with that one! I took some slow motion video and saw it was again hitting the turret. I moved the scope forward a bit (the scope has a large eyebox) and it now runs fine.

By the looks of it long action Sakos do not like 30 mm scopes with larger turrets. My short action L579 runs great with a 30mm tube with large turrets mounted in Iow rings.
 
Well I received the rifle back from Stoeger after about 10 weeks there.
They verified head space, installed heavier extractor spring and sharpened claw, installed new ejector assembly and torqued action screws to spec. They took it to the range and verified accuracy, sent me the target and a full box of federal 130 grain ballistic tips that they used for the test. The box of ammo was a nice plus.They recommended I go with medium height rings which I bought.
The brass ejects much crisper now but the odd one does seem to just barely glance off the scope, but does eject it well out.
Overall I am happy with the way it works now, although the scope is mounted higher than I normally like.

It seems I may have got better service from Stoeger on this problem than others have mentioned, and I am thankful for that.
 
We've shot Sako's for going on 10 years and never had this issue. They are all mounted with MED rings. We've used mostly Finnlights, Bavarians, Carbonlight, Hunter and Grey Wolf models in both WSM's and standard calibres but never once seen the issue that everyone is reporting. Not saying the issue doesn't exist but perhaps it really is about the rings you're choosing.
 
I think alot has to do with the size of the wondage turret, and where it is located when your scope is mounted. Any of the older style hunting scopes (say a Leupold vx) has much shorter turrets than most of the new popular scopes. Some of those same scopes have fairly long tubes, and end up mounted with the turrets forwards of where the case is ejected. Between those two things the issue goes away.

Why is it that many new scopes have such a "tall" windage turret? I doubt there is a good reason that a turret needs to be a full inch tall, making it stick way out there.
