Hey folks! Its probably been asked already, but if you had to put money on the counter for a .223 precision(varmint) rifle would you put the extra into the sako and be done with it? Or put the money on the tikka and use the rest on a chassis. I ve handled both and the sako with its true to caliber short action just feels fantastic. I like the laminated stock on the sako also.
I have a Ruger American ranch for a fun gun .223/5.56
And a tikka t3x ctr.308 and a couple of savage model 10/11's
And ive dabbled in the cz527
My use would be crownland target shooting(as far as possible) and gopher/ pest control.
I'm not opposed to a savage/Remington or other brands either.
I don't reload yet but have access to the equipment
I do like a bit of a project also
Cost is important but I'm not afraid to shell out if it makes me happy

Maybe I'm looking for justification on getting the sako... any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.
thanks

If you don't plan to change anything on the rifle and you like the stock and you don't mind optilocks - take Sako.

If you think you might want a chassis, a choice of bolt handles, picatinny rail, aftermarket trigger, choice of magazines - take Tikka.

Always a gamble with the new Sako, get one with ejection issues and its a headache. Tikkas have zero ejection issues and use the same barrel. If it were my choice Id but the Tikka.

Cheers!!

I was going to say you never hear problems with a Sako but ^^ . Still I've had both and the one I have sellers remorse over is the Sako . My Sako shot no better than my 700p but a Remington or tikka will never beat a Sako for overall quality IMO

Sums it up pretty well. Both are tack drivers but Tikka is a better project gun.

Yep I agree, Sako fit and finish is outstanding but there is that chance you will get one thats a dud and it turns out to be an expensive single shot. Had this happen to me with their A7 in a 22-250 and was lucky I could return it.

Cheers!!

Thanks for the input, I'm thinking of going tikka as I have one in a different caliber, and kinda know what to expect. You guys sold me on the fact it just has so much aftermarket going for it. The sako is classy but I'm a modest man.:d

Near makes a pic rail for the sako. I'd choose the sako over the tikka any day if it's gonna stay in its factory configuration. If customizing is your thing and or money is an issue I'd get the tikka.
