Hey everyone,

I’ve got a 1” Schmidt & Bender Klassic on the way which I’ll be mounting to my Sako 85. I haven’t been able to find many mounting options other that Sako’s Optilock system.

Does anyone know of other options? Sako’s system seems fine, and I don’t mind spending $200 but I want to know that my money’s being well-spent. The plastic insert seems like a gimmick, and since I lap my rings I think I can do better for $200.

Talley seems to make rings with bases that will fit in the same price range, so I’m considering them.

I want something extremely solid and durable, preferably under $200, but willing to pay more if it’s worth it.

Any options or ideas are appreciated, or opinions on Sako’s Optilock system.

Thanks,

Keith

Sako ringmounts (the one piece units) are the best you can currently buy.
I also really like the warne premier series but they were discontinued many years ago.
And as a third place option I don't mind leupolds - preferably before they started adding the cheesy "L" on the ring tops.

I personally would not consider using any mount that adds bases to a rifle with integral bases.

Burris bases and Leupold rings here. Tried the Sako, both two and one piece, and find this set up much cleaner looking and solid. If you do go Sako be careful with the screws. They are not hardened like one would expect from quality components at this price.

Seems like the Leupolds are a good option. Are those the Dual Dovetail rings with the Tikka T3 2-piece mounts? I'm not 100% sure which mounts to use.

Since you already have a Schmidt & Bender that tells me you like and can afford quality. If you want the best mounts and Quick detachable you need to dig a little deeper into your Pocket. Nothing better then EAW Mounts made in Germany. I believe there is a Distributer in Vancouver.

Cheers

I'm definitely willing to spend money on the rings/mounts. I haven't really considered QD mounts, and this sort of opens another conversation.

Can QD mounts be trusted? This is a hunting rifle so I want something as durable as possible. But on the other hand, it has iron sights so it'd be awesome to be able to detach the scope quickly. How much durability/reliability am I giving up for the convenience of QD mounts?

I have QD mounts on a couple of rifles. One is an IOR Valdada mount with an IOR scope. I've taken the scope with mounts off the rifle to see if it will be close to zero when its reattached. Not perfect but less than an moa poi at 100 meters.

Frankly, I don't see a real reason for QD mounts as most modern rifles don't have iron sights.

contact Near manufacturing they are in Alberta great stuff I had him do one for me on an 85 finlight in 300WN fantastic products I have lots of his alpha mounts for other thiongs as well .

Thanks, just checked out their website. They seem to have some good options. I'll give them a call.
