He all, been gone along time.

Just acquired a Sako A111 in 25-06. Know the calibre well but am unfamiliar with the A111. Can't seem to find a wealth of information about it. Typical Sako in fit n finish with a buttery smooth action

All I can gather is that is was Sako's line for the North America market and it was a version of one of their staples.

Look forward to someone chiming on to educate.

Cheers

The AIII is a rebadging of the old L61R in 1978. If memory serves, Sako changed to the A series and then used the I, III, V etc to denote the length of the action as there were 5 sizes based on cartridge length. I have an AIII in 30-06 from the first year of the A series numbering, 1978. Outstanding quality and construction. You cannot go wrong with an A Series Sako. They are among the best sporting rifles ever produced.

Trying to remember if the AIII has the third safety lug on the bolt like the L61R. Both great rifles.

My 61R 375H&H went to Grand Prairie years ago. Would buy it back in a heartbeat.

You won't be disappointed in your SAKO.

I believe after a few years, they dropped the AIII name and went with AV for standard and magnum length actions.

Just pulled mine out to double check. It does not.

I would pay a fair whack of money, for an A3/4 (three quarters), were it to have been made. Just a little smaller action than an AI, I think would be an awfully nice action for gophers and .22 Hornet and a few other of the smaller, shorter cartridges that really had not made the scene when the A-series was being made.

I’m not saying they’re not out there but I’ve never seen an A- series with the third lug

I would say it’s more than a rebadge, there is the omission of the third lug and a different stock design
