I am curious to what you guys think about the A7? I have read many online reviews.

Anyone own one? 1200 is the max what I want to spend on my new rifle. I am open to suggestions of other brands. It must be stainless and I am thinking the a7 looks good.

A Tikka T-3 is very similar to the A-7 and will shoot about as good, but at less money, if you wanted to spend more on a scope

I've spent some time with the A7 and came to the conclusion that it's a rifle that fits no niche.

The Tikka T3 is a fine gun, and sells for 200-300 less. The Sako 85 is also a fine gun, and sells for about $500.00 more than the A7. It doesn't fill any role that either of these guns can't fill. The overall product isn't much better or worse than either model, so I don't know why people wouldn't just buy a T3.

With this being said, I'd buy a Savage (1)16fcss in 30-06 or .308win for $699.00

I was thinking that the a7 had the same production value as the other sakos but at a lower coat.

What do you mean by no niche? Too expensive to fit the role of a truck gun and not nice enough to be a heirloom?

Thank you for the input I will research the savage now. I hear nothing but good things even about savage, even the lowly Stevens 200 get good reviews

All of the Sako's are good, from the T3 to the Finnlight, I just don't see why people would buy the A7. What makes it worth paying more for compared to the T3? I'm not saying the A7 sucks, I just don't understand what market they're targeted at.

I really like the T3, I've handled them lots and shot them a few times. My dad is buying one.

I personally just like the Savage line of rifles more, not because I think they're superior, it's just a preference. I'll be buying the 16fcss in .308 once they go on sale. For now I have a Ruger gunsite scout on order

I had a T3 lite 308, then bought a stainless 300WSM A7 when I got it at a good price ($800.00). After some range time with the A7, I was confident enough to sell the T3 and use it as my main hunting rifle.

The two guns are very similar. The A7 has some refinements like metal feed lips on the mag, a more "foolproof" mag release system, a 3 position safety, and a much heavier receiver with a larger ejection port (allows you, should you be so inclined, to feed a cartridge in from the top). The A7 also came with weaver style scope bases, so it was cheaper to throw a scope on.

I think the A7 is a reasonable choice. I like mine, and have no plans to replace it. It shoots accurately, and feels good in the hand. I did benefit from a limbsaver pad that I added.

Here's a good look at some of the features and differences between Tikka T3 and Sako A7:

Arma-Coat finishes has a ruger GSS pre-sale going on for $899.00 + GST + Shipping.

Rifles are due to arrive end of November 2011, and I've had one on order since October. The way I see it, this will be the ultimate hunting gun for BC. Stainless detach mag .308 rifle with iron sights and Ruger accuracy for the price of a T3.

I like my Ruger Stainless M77 Mark II in 223. A good solid, dependable hunting rifle. The integral scope ring base and included rings are valuable great inclusion. About the only thing one could complain about is the stock trigger and fixed mag. The trigger can easily be reworked, and the fixed mag isn't that big a deal either. Certainly a good option. There are lots of good rifles out there. But whether the Sako A7 is good, I would say yes.

I would rather spend more for a new Sako 85 or get a used Sako (or something else) for less if I wasn't willing to pay the price for a new 85.

For $1200 I would buy a used Sako 75.

WSS is selling the A7 in 300 wsm stainless for $899. The T3 in stainless costs the same. You decide.

They can usually be found for nearly the same or a 100$ more. Its worth spending the extra over a T3 in my opinion. If you search the threads you will see quite a few members here like their A7's. Good choice if looking for a lightweight gun at a good price...my .270 is just over 6.5 pounds scoped and shoots very well. Im not sure which savage you can compare it to, maybe the newer lightweight models. I have a "no frills 110 action" and they are "heavy" to say the least.
