while the A7 is a nice rifle, it's cheap feeling stock which should be on a $500 t3 tikka, and plastic magazine etc give it a toy feel. The m70 EW on the other hand is a quality rifle with a fiberglass stock with full length aluminum bedding block, metal bottom metal and a fluted barrel. Probably shoot just as accurate as the A7 too

I haven't got a Sako yet, but I'd rather the M70 than the A7. I'm just a M70 fan and without a nice Model 75 wandering past I'd stick to my M70 choice.

Sako needs to ditch the plastic. I much prefer the old ones with a real stock on them ;)

But I am bias when it comes to Sako.

I agree 100%.....the last good Sakos made were the A series rifles.

The Model 70 EW is quite a deal considering the all steel action, the one piece Williams bottom metal, the B&C stock with aluminium bedding block and fluted barrel.....and the MOA trigger isn't bad either....I got one in 270 Win in a trade last winter and promptly traded it off...wish I'd kept it now.

The M70 EW is everything I'm looking for in a new rifle. The only thing is that the stock is kind of "chubby" compared to what I like. I like a nice trim stock, like on a Rem 700 Mtn rifle. Other wise I'd probably own one right now.
The A7 will certainly be an accurate rifle, but I think you'll be sacrificing the quality "feel" you deserve when paying that much $.

Since the re-introduction of the Model 70, I've wondered why they had to go and mess with the trigger; the 'Rifleman's Rifle' always had such a good one, and simple too.

exactly...I have a bunch of old Model 70's and the simple trigger is easily reworked to 3#'s or less...with a bit of careful stoning...mine are all between 2-1/2 and 2-3/4 lbs.

The new FN MOA trigger I had was crisp but it would not go below 3-1/4#'s..

There was nothing wrong with the old M70 trigger,..it worked for 70 years...

I suspect it had to do with cost reductions or manufacturing efficiencies... or marketing, to jump on the 'new trigger' bandwagon a-la the Accutrigger, LC6, X-Mark Pro, etc.

Even saying it out loud, I guess the latter is probably the truth.

M70 definitely, I really like the look of the new Extreme Weather. The A7 is decent (lighter and very accurate), but I prefer steel bottom metal and actual composite stocks to plastic.

I'm going to be picking one up sometime this summer for the coming fall. .30-06 of course..just wish the '06 came with a 24" barrel instead of 22". Have handled one a few times and fits me perfectly..

I vote Winchester, and in fact did recently with my own cash, but not the EW. They have a Shot Show special out right now, a stainless featherweight. It is a great rifle.

Why? Same reasons as Tod and Rembo already stated. The only Sakos I like have two lugs and no plastic. I'm also a M70 guy.

I've never been a fan of Winchester bolt actions. The safety has always turned me off of them. A close friend has a small collection of M70's ranging in calibers, and the accuracy is not very impressive. I must say that they always feel solid and well put together though. I've got a Winchester model 100 semi-auto in .308 though, and it is a dream to shoot.

I pick the A7 because of the smooth action, the ability to unload with the safety on, accuracy, light-weight. However, for an extreme conditions rifle, I went with an 85 Finnlight S/S in 7mm Rem. Mag.

Well, Put a few bucks down on a M70 Ex weather .30-06 earlier today!! Gonna drop the rest of the cash on it later in the week. Very excited!! Looks way better in your hands than on pictures, and feels just right. :D
