Sako A7 vs Win M70 extreme weather --- thoughts?

I bought a M70 EW from the EE a few months ago. Absolutely love it. 3/4 inch groups, very smooth action, Pac recoil pad, B&C stock with cheek piece, 7 lbs

I'd take the M70 anyday. Better stock, better safety, hinged floorplate instead of a DM...I think it's more of a sturdy no nonsense hunting rifle than the Sako.

And I prefer the Sako stock, detachable Mag, and honestly the safeties are a wash for me - just goes to show different strokes for different folks. The A7 is just within my budget and is my next pick-up.

I will say that the stock on both the A7 and the M70 feels significantly better than on $300 cheaper rifles like the Savage Weather Warrior and Tikka T3 light. Whether or not that's worth the $300 to you....

The Sako stock is still just cheap injection molded tupperware, even if they tried to make it look ###y.

is there a better than the factory stock available for the Sako A7 short action?
I also need a stock for a short action Browning Stainless Stalker without the right hand palm swell, anyone know of something available?

A couple (or few?) years ago I was in the market for an off the shelf stainless/synthetic rifle. Handled a bunch, including the two you mentioned. I went with the M70.

The thought of paying more money for something with a plastic bolt shroud, plastic magzine and barbie doll stock just does not compute with me...The M70 is plenty accurate, I shot many small groups while working up loads...Even if the Sako squeezes out a wee bit more accuracy it is still not worth it to me.

If you wanna go Sako stick with the 75/85s...Even then I would have to go for wood or laminate b/c I couldn't bring myself to shell out the coin they want for one of their synthetics...

I'd personally go for a McMillan...doesn't really get any better than that.

Try Wildcat Composites, if they make a stock for the Sako's. I don't know if they do.

They are great stocks, made right in Edmonton. Might have to have a gunsmith do the final inletting, fitting and bedding, depending on your skills.

The low end sako's are worse than some of the Mossberg rifles for quality of finish and Mossberg's are ugly. I handled a few of them when they first came out and was not impressed. If you really need a sako then save your money and buy new or look for a used 85 or 75. I bought a m70 extreme and it shoots three shots touching if I do my part. I'm happy with true controlled round feed, sako claims that is what they have but its not quite true. The sako 85's are good guns. They just can't compete with the Winchester prices for what you get in a new gun. The a7's are not my choice in a new gun to buy.

The A7 does not claim to be a CRF nor is it.

Does anyone know where I could find a m70 EW in .308 or 7-08? I'm seeing them on-line at various places in all other calibers but. Lots o' WSM and long actions to be seen but no shorty's.

I have 3 model 70s. 300 win mag super grade, 270 xtr, And 30-06 feather weight. All 3 have 6x leupolds on them and they shoot good groups. I won't be selling thoses.
