Nice Rifles,
Pros: (for me) Light, accurate, great action, nice stock for a synthetic, good drop mag system, saftey locks bolt handle, weaver bases.
Cons: (for me) would like to see an alloy bottom metal.
They are very similar feature wise, and it sounds like you're on the same path as I was.
I sold my Xbolt because the stock just didn't fit quite right. The A7 fits me perfect, that being said though, it's presently up for sale.
My deer hunting partner has one in .308 and likes it very much. I like it too, especially the synthetic stock with its inserts. I think its one of the nicer 'production rifle' synthetic stocks. The round feed is also very smooth and locks with a positive feel.
If I'm not getting it mixed up with his Tikka SS HB varmint, I don't care for the mag release. I have big fingers and seem to have trouble with the latch. It might be too shallow or the space between the latch and the mag might be too narrow for my fingers. - I find I have to flip the rifle around to see what I'm doing.
But I could be mixing this up with his Tikka which is also a very nice rifle.
My A7 in .270 with handloads shoots little cloverleafs at 100 and 200 yards. I've also taken 2 deer and a moose at 100 - 250 yds. Love the weight, balance and accuracy of the A7. Also have an Xbolt in 7mm-08 and love the fit, finish and accuracy of this rifle also. Both have drop mags, which is a must have in my gun selection.
