Son picked up a beautiful Sako AV 30-06, sn. # 616### on the weekend from his boss.
I think he stole it for what he paid. :D
We took it to the range Sunday, pretty sweet.
I've tried to find out more info, get an owner's manual, etc. from the Sako site but there doesn't seem to be a model called Sako AV.
I know diddly squat about Sakos.
Any help, info you can provide will be great.

I am not one for the History, of the Sako? But I can tell you this I love the AV modle have 2 custom magnum rifles built on them.

I also love L-61s, over the modern rifles, but thats a personal preferance.

I think the AV were introduced in the mid 70s but I could be BSing ya, and not not enough to comment about them other than the quality.

My go to gun is a Sako Av 300 winny. I have the very nice original walnut stock which I used in Africa and when it's frozen outside and I have a mcmillan stock for when I expect it to be wet and ugly.

Where you are going wrong is that is a Model A, the V is a Roman 5 which tells you that it is the action designed for the ~63mm length of cartridges.
A I is a rimfire if I remember correctly, II is something like a Hornet, III is .223 ish, etc.
Sako is the last major maker to offer a full range of action lengths.
In the TRG series, they went even further and offered an extra long action, but used the letter S to stand for "Super".

There have been discussions on Sakos recently and here's what I've learned from owning about 10 of them over the years.

The first Sako rifle with their own action was the L46 back in the late 40's-early 50's...was mostly made in 222, then then the L57 in '55ish...handled 308, 243 etc, then the L61R...handled 30-06 type cartridges and magnums, I had these in 270 & 7Mag....then in the 60's the two smaller ones were upgraded a bit, they became the L461 and the L579 . Later in the 70's they were slightly changed again becoming the AI, for 222,223 etc, the AII for 243, 308 etc, and the AIII for 30-06 etc, and magnums, I had one in 30-06,...then later they changed the AIII a bit and it became the AIV and then the AV......a whole more to the time line and models than say a Rem 700...:)
