I have a question for all you Sako owners, have any of you gone through the hassle of mounting talleys rather than the heavy rings mounted on the dovetails?

trying to lighten up my finnlight and this might be an option for a few ounces...

I think leupolds will be your lightest, quality mount. Although there is a member on here who has had his sakos drilled and tapped to use talley lightweights.... Those would be the lightest, but I couldn't bring myself into bubba-ing a sako like that.

leupold will save you a couple ounces. The stock and bottom metal is where the weight savings is

Finnlight models used aluminum, most if not all others were steel.

What series, and caliber of sako are we talking about here?

My 75 finnlight is 7lbs 2oz with VX3, leupold rings, sling, mag, and alumina scope caps.. The bare rifle in the EDGE is 5lbs 12oz. You arent going to get them much lighter, unless you drill them full of holes.

IMO, it would be foolish to drill and tap the dovetails to save 2oz.

Can't comment on drilling & tapping to mount Talley rings.. but can regarding so for a rail

I had one of my sakos, and am having a second one now drilled & tapped for a pic-rail.. with the rail you're dead solid and unlimited to what kind/size/make or style ring-mount you go with... plus the rail adds rigidity and aids to eliminate flex. It adds a few ounces vs take away ounces, but in my opinion it opens doors and allows for a more solid reciever and even more consistent/reliable zero for that matter. Reducing that flex also makes firing's easier on optics* ...isn't just the recoil knocking reticles and lenses loose that wreck scopes.

I honestly didn't think it be worth the hassle, almost gawked at the idea to start with myself, but yah.. I'd hate ever going back to those lousy dove-tails. Rail is the way to go.

Just something to think about*
