I have just bought my wife her first centerfire rifle...a Sako L61R in 25-06. Can someone please explain what the difference is between a pre-Garcia and the later models? The serial number is 63###, does anyone know if this is pre-Garcia? Also, the barrel is not exactly pencil thin and appears to be just over 25" (maybe 640mm?). Were there different contours available, and if so what were the dimensions.

Hey Bigredd, I guess I will have to test out those loads I was comparing to the 25 WSSM to see if they stack up! :D
 
My L61R, in 270 is 17,2xx. I bought it in mid 60s and there was no distributer in Canada at the time. I was able to get it direct from the factory in Finland.
 
If you look under the barrel near the fore end it may have an inporters stamp on it. One of mine says Garcia, another has a different importer stamp ( can't remember what, and I'm upstairs, it's in the basement!)
