Fully outfitted my .270 Sako 75 Hunter tips the scales at over ten pounds and that seems a little heavy for the caliber so I'm considering the Finnlight in the same caliber. (I was toying with the idea of one in .260 Remington but I'm already heavily invested in the .270 Winchester and not interested in adding another caliber at this time.)

Any comments pro or con about the Finnlight relative to accuracy, reliability, handling or any other observations particularly as they relate to the blued Model 75?

The 270 Win really enjoys a 24" barrel which the Finnlight does not have. Sako cut the length down to 22" which will sacrafice volocity for a little weight. The Fluted barrel really doesn't do much from what I can see other than drop some oz's and deliver a sportster barrel with more a mountain contour weight. My favorite load for my Rem BDL 270 Win with the 24" tube is the 140 grain AccuBond over H1000. It pushes the crony @ 3100 FPS in +20 degree weather and delivers top accuarcy (well below moa). The load needs all that tube as it is a slow powder.

What is driving the weight on your 75? Is it the stock or mounts/rings/scope???? I had to sell my Buckmaster 4-12x50 just for that reason that it drove the weight of my 270 sky high! Replaced it with a Leupold VXII 4-12x40...what a difference.

People have been shooting 22 inch barreled 270's for years and I doubt too many of them missed the extra 60 fps nor did the thousands of game animals that were killed know the difference.

Since he has a Sako and was asking about a Sako, I imagine he probably already knows the dimensions of the models. But then again, I could be wrong.

Once again this runs the risk of digressing into a barrel length debate instead of "How good is the Sako Finnlight?"

Chilly Willy.....I am not picking at you, just an observation.

Optilok rings and bases are very heavy, I weighed the ones on my 7mm mag and they weigh79 grams each, or about oz, my comparison lightweightr talleys weigh 29 grams.

I have a lot of Sako's and I never use the Sako rings...........as you said too heavy. I have used the Warne rings quite a bit and they work well, one piece design for the dovetail receivers.

Sasquatch,

Whats with the attitude? Just stating facts that could influence buyer preference. This isn't a barrel length debate, if it was I wouldn't have gone into fluted barrels and weight of optics and mounting systems! That s great that you own Sako's....I guess they're the best eh???? Simply my point is that use of slower powders like H1000 tend to require longer tubes than a considerably faster burning powder.

Thanks for the info so far.

Out of the box the rifle weighed just over 8lbs (Sako's estimated weight is 7-15/16bs). Optilock rings, leather sling, full magazine, Elite 4000 1.5-6, 8 spare rounds in a butt cuff take it to 10-1/4 lbs. Dumping the spare rounds, going to lighter rings and a synthetic sling still has me with a rifle heavier than I want.

I understand I'm losing 2 inches off the barrel (20-7/8 versys 22-7/8) but I'm not particularly worried about the velocity loss. This is a deer and perhaps bear rifle and won't likely ever be shot beyond 300 yards.

What I am concerned about is accuracy and reliability. Does the Finnlight measure up to the other models? Does the lighter fluted barrel, various alloy parts and synthetic stock change how well the rifle shoots?

I have five Sako Model 75's and have a Finnlight in 280 Remington. The accuracy and reliability on the Finnlight is outstanding and is probably my second most accurate hunting rifle, shooting groups close to my 300 Win Mag and 270 Win. The only thing on the Finnlight that gave me initial concern was the stock. It is noticeably different than the M75 and seemed cheaper. I am happy to report that after four years of heavy use, my concerns were unfounded... the stock fits the rifle and wears very well.

I love the balance of the Sako rifles and actually prefer the balance of the Finnlight to the 75. It is a very comfortable rifle and fits me well. Other hunting partners who do not shoot Sakos but have shot my Finnlight agree. Hope this helps. Regards, Mike

Finnlight

I bought a Finnlight in 30-06 back in December and am very happy with it. I have been shooting a variety of ammo, both "cheap" and expensive and most are Sub MOA. The "cheap" stuff often shoots as well or better than the super duper Supreme stuff. I guess i'm paying for bullet performance more than accuracy.....anyway. I have the Sako rings/mounts on my rifle holding an Elite 4-12X40 which brings my weight to 8.3 lbs (empty). Very comfortable to carry around and an excellent factory trigger to boot.
