My friend wants to sell me a Sako L461 vixen in .222. It has a heavy barrel and a stock that has a wide forend. Its in excellent shape. I took it home last night and cleaned it up really well. I'm going to test it out this weekend. What kind of price range is fair if its in excellent shape?

Offer him 100 bucks, when he turns your offer down send me the rifle and i will test it out and buy it. :D Don`t know full value with out pics but i wouldn`t sell for less than 700 depending on condition. Hope it turnws out for you.

Great rifle I've had a few over the years and all shot very well.
You wont be disappointed, I would pay around $700 for one.

One just sold at Epps for $949.

A Sako L461, 222, heavy barrel, in excellent shape should go from $900 to 1'200, but again that's in excellent condition.

There are places and people where it would sit at $700 and there are places and people who will pay $1000...

Don't feel guilty about paying $600 or $700. The person selling it is not a dealer and does not have to sell at retail... On the other hand if he is not in a hurry to sell, he may find a buyer who will pay bigger dollars... ask your friend what he would be comfortable with... and tell him if you sell it for more you will split the difference with him... That's done all the time between gun buddies...

Epps also has this beauty for sale, in .222. If I had the money it would with me right now. Considering the value of the scope, it's a very good deal, I think...the rifle is probably priced around the $600-$700 mark. See below for the pictures of it that Mac sent me... :)

Stock isn't factory , nor is the barrel at 26" so the rifle is a custom at best so that is all it is worth. If you take the price of a used scope off that one it is over priced for a L46.

Thanks Ditchdogger, I did not know that!

If you pick it up for a good price and are not fond of the 222 then it could be re-barreled to a 223, 204, 20 tac, etc., as there is a good possibility she's had a lot of rounds through her. L461's were very well made. I have an older 222 Vixen heavy barrel with the wide beavertail that I wouldn't sell for my life. It's on it's third barrel now.

Ditchdogger I had an early Sako L46 much like the one pictured
and it had a rosewood tip on it, a factory Sako rubber pad and a 26 inch barrel. The rifle I had was an unmolested, factory original, deluxe rifle.
