Hello,

I've got a Sako L 57 No 7###, which is stamped on the receiver, and on the barrel is stamped "Eatons of Canada Truline Model 100". Stamped on the side of the barrel is; "Cal .308 made in the usa" This Sako has the straight bolt with the circle dish cut-out to make room for the scope when the bolt is up, and has the circle-shaped safety on the side of the bolt. The action is very smooth. The barrel is 20 5/8ths" from muzzle to receiver and tapers down to just over 1/2" at the muzzle. The muzzle is flat and looks to be crudely tapered at the bore. It shoots well, I just can't recall the groups at this time.... There are two small inletted screws on the barrel at about 4" down from the receiver for a front sight mount, but there is no front sight, just a smooth barrel.

What can you tell me about this rifle? Is it original? Has it been bubba'd?

I'd like to put iron sights on it, did it ever have them? What sights will work?

Thanks.

sounds like a Sako L57 branded for Eatons. Odd that the barrel is stamped "made in USA"....must have been barreled and maybe stocked in the US...maybe it was barreled by Marlin...they used a Sako L46 action for some of thier rifles in the 50's.......

it would be interesting to get some history on this one...

Sako l-57 Eaton's of Canada

I too had one about a year ago - same markings and caliber. ser# 76. I would think these were made up for Eaton's by perhaps H&R or Mossberg? Just guessing, but definetly with the Sako actions. Late 50's or early 60's I would think. I sold mine for 250 bucks to a guy who wanted the action. Hope this helps some!

On the FRT data base it says the L57 was made by Sako in Finland. They list the barrel length as 508 cm. The importer was Montgomery Ward. The stuff on the FRT Data-base in not always spot on though.
