Actually was the first time i seen this moddle and no little about it, if you google it theres little info? Its an older loking gun in great shape.

I bought it in a 30-06!

Any comments Thank you ! I have yet to handle it! It looks good, has a VXII 50 mm on it!

With the Leupold scope I'd say you got a good deal!!! I wonder what kind of rings and mounts it comes with? I ordered OptiLock bases and rings for mine.

There is a thread here... http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107497

I know they did make the Sako L61R in Deluxe, Hunter, and Mannlicher style.

Mines being shipped to me now! It'll be here any day now. :D

Here's the dealer pics...

Looks like a really nice rifle, some guys say this was the best Sako Action. I don't believe there is a huge difference from the AV series.

L61

Have had one in .270 since 1964. Has yours got the safety locking lug near the bolt handle? The quality of the action dropped when they did away with the third locking lug. I don't mean the models with just the two front lugs are not safe, it is just that they took short cuts in quality at the same time

I have the exact same rifle. Mine was in 7mm Remington Magnum. (It's a .300 Winchester Mag now.) The one in your photo looks like an early '70s version. I bought mine in 1985 when I just turned 19. It was already a veteran at that time.

I taught myself to reload and shoot with that rifle, and I eventually burned the barrel. It just so happened that rgv, a member of this very forum, had a used take-off barrel in .300 Winchester and sold it to me for a reasonable price. My gunsmith screwed it in and it headspaced perfectly. So far it seems to be a decent shooter, preferring the 180-grain bullets.

In my opinion, the L61R Finnbear should go down as one of the all time greatest rifles, anywhere. In my opinion, it ranks at least up there with the pre-'64 Model 70. I also found that this exact stock design fits me better than any other factory stock I've ever held. I can literally look at a spot on the wall, close my eyes, raise my rifle and open my eyes to find it pointing at that spot.

As another aside, the stock on your rifle is virtually identical to mine. These were NOT the prettiest stocks that Sako made, but they are incredibly hard and stable. If you bed that stock properly, it will be amazingly consistent for you over the long haul, which is what you want. Just be sure to have it bedded properly with something like Devcon, Marine-Tex, Bisonite, etc.

Your rifle is a .30-06. That as a classic choice for a classic rifle. Do not let this one get away!!!

Let us know how it all works out.
