Hey all.

Billions of years ago I was looking for a moose hunting rifle. Was 19 and picked 338 Winchester Magnum as the caliber based on balistics from the back of a Guns & Ammo annual.

Saw a Sako Manlicher at Al Simmons in Hamilton. Nice walnut stock. Beautifull rifle. Great bluing.

But I opted for a Browning A Bolt Stainless Stalker from the Erie Sports Store in Erie PA.

At the time it seemd to make sense for a hunting rifle.

Now I am not a hunter. And I have always regretted not getting the Sako.

Are they a common rifle any more?

Might place a wanted to buy ad........

Used, they are hard to come by. Sako is making a new one, but no magnums. Saw one a while ago at Williams', and I think it went for around $1200 with the Leupold on it...I still have the pic...:D

I have always like the look of them. I have been told but can not confirm that the stock is actually two pieces of wood joined at/under the barrel band. If this is true, it could lead to a next winter wood working project for just about any other bolt action rifle. Can an owner confirm if the stock is one piece or two piece. Thanks.

Played with one for a while, two pieces.

I have two SAko Manlicher rifles. 30.06 & .338 win mag. The 30.06 is an AIII and has a squared off forend 2 piece stock. The .338 AV has a rounded forend and there is a pronounced palm swell on it as well & it is very loud when it goes off. They are both beautiful rifles and will probably accompany me to the afterlife. lol

I have one in 30-06 mint shape looks like it just came out of the box, I find it to heavy for hunting so it sits in the safe.
