Sako or Tikka

Thats a good price for the A7 with rings and that scope. I had the A7 briefly and it really do anything for me, fit poorly. Exchanged it for the 85 Finnlight. I actually prefer the finish and feel of the Tikka's but to each his own.
One thing I do hate about the A7 and the 85's is that locking mag system. I've never had a mag pop out and loose it, its overkill to me, but a supposed selling point for Sako??.

Cheers!!

I'm really torn between the two for a few reasons.
I enjoy the walnut of the tikka a lot more than the plastic of the A7
The A7 seems a little better built than the tikka though, three lug bolt, steel lip mag, adjustable trigger and three way safety all of which I don't really know if they make any diffrence in dependability or not?

I handles both and they both feel pretty good I would just like to know if there are any quality concerns I should be aware of before taking the plunge.

I don't think any of the things you mentioned would make any difference to dependability. Typically, two lug bolts shoot as well as three lug, but the throw angle is greater with two lugs. Doubt that any one has ever worn out a mag with plastic lips so not sure what the advantage is there? I had a couple of Tikka's and I think they had adjustable triggers...used a little allen wrench through the back end of the mag port.
Don't know about the A7, but recall the Tikka's single stack mag was pretty tough to load from the top.

The child-proof Sako 85 magazine latch can be fixed with a file.....

sako can top feed, where as tikka cannot.
makes loading 3 in mag 1 in pipe a bit more time consuming
Tikka does handle and operate faster in my hands though
tikka saftey can stick if bolt is lifted and cannot be loaded with saftey on.

i would take sako for 999 with that burris , my t3 lite stainless cost that much with a burris timberline. go for that sako

They are package pricing the Sako A7's because of upgrades/changes to new models being released from what I heard.

That being said, the package price is a good deal. Personlly I would go for a Sako m75 rifle then the m85 (I prefer the m75 stock). Any of the Sako or Tikka T3's will be good shooters

I own 2 tikka t3's and bought a A7 package a for 989 and I don't like it any better than the Tikka's. Nothing wrong with it, nice rifle for the price, and the scopes are pretty decent too. If you have any questions let me know. And you can't top feed the A7 only the 85's.

Trying to decide between the Sako A7 or the T3 Hunter
30/06 They have the package on at wholesale for 999.99 includes a burris full field II optics and rings

Anyone own one of these you can give me a little feed back?

That is the EXACT deal I'm looking at. $999 with scope is awesome. I'm going to keep a real good eye on this thread.

The $999 price is for blued barrells, stainless are $1099. Price is the same for either standard or magnum loads.......fyi

a three lug bolt is stronger. The A7 also has a better barrel than the tikka, from what i have been told. The 3 position safety is just a convienence, but does make unloading the gun safer. plastic liped magazines take a long time to wear out, at least in the 10-22. they do wear out eventually, but its more likely to damage the plastic than the steel. I think the a7 is alot closer to the 85 than the tikka, but still not nearly the gun.

I faced the same decision and got the a7 with the burris ff2 in stainless, 30-06. I love it, smooth bolt, lighter recoil than expected being so light. Both have smooth bolts, both are supposed to be great shooters but if that's your criteria get a savage for much less. I much prefer the look of the tikka walnut stock but I had a svage american classic last year that was a nice looking rifle and I found I was always baying it, protecting my hunting buddies rifle from touching it the truck, that sort of thing. So the a7 with my first plastic stock and stainless should be a less worriesome rig...
Doing much handling I found they fit very similarly with the walnut tikke being perfect for me and the a7 being only great :)
Either one will fill in for the other but if you shoot off the bench much the open action of the a7 will allow much easier single shot feeding, or the full 4 shot loading.
Either one will get you hooked, it basically comes down to personal preference. The a7s have been uprgaded due to bipod issues with the stock if that matters to you. There is a good head to head comparison out there if you google and it has nice photos as well.

I've got my Saco A7 RH (stainless) in .243 with Burris 3-9x Fullfield II scope (package - 1099$), Harris bipod and a new recoil pad from WSS Edmonton. Very happy! Can't wait to take her shooting! :)
