I've recently inherited this rifle from my late grandfather. Is anyone able to give me some history on these guns? Also what are people using for rings and bases on these rifles?

the rifle should have a two piece dovetail base screwed on to the receiver. it is metric, measuring 1.145 cm. some shops carry a CZ/Euro base adapter for picatinny type rings which fits the P72 dovetail base. the sporter version came with williams open sights. apparently only around 4000 of various configurations were ever built so they aren't exactly common. magazines are no longer available so don't lose it. they have a reputation for superb accuracy but the trigger isn't great. on par with the 64 series Anschutz riles. if you need more info send me a message, I own one.

Good info and threads on rimfire central. A 64 anschutz isn’t even in the same league.

They are very nice rifle.
- Any 11mm ring should work. If you want something "nicer" Conetrol makes some bases for it (45T059H2)
- Spare magazines are not that common... and on the expensive side of things

I have a p78, pretty much the same rifle. Mine is extremely accurate.
