I keep hearing how good they are, but are they really that much better than the Tikkas?

In my opinion, the difference is similar to that between a Savage and a Stevens. Very similar, both good, one is just somewhat nicer. It goes a little deeper than that of course, but that's the best analogy I can make.

Sako makes a fine rifle, but they are getting quite expensive. ~$1550 vs. $690 for Sako vs. Tikka in stainless synthetic. That is well over twice the price. If you consider the price of high quality optics, you would be well over $2000 on the Sako. That is a lot of money.

On paper from a bench no there are no better. Better Bolt nicer finish, nice wood if you go that route, fluted barrel a well bult rifle. I have owned and own plenty of both, old and new, from the 61s As, 995s to the 75s, I never did buy a 85 I bought 2 tikkas with VX IIs instead for about the same price.

1000.00 dollars better No! Not a chance But beauty is in the eye of the beholder so is personel opinions so how do you put a price on a firearm without different opinions. Impossible.....

If you're going to flip it in a year or two, then I wouldn't buy the Sako. But if you want a quality firearm for the long term, then what's a few $$ more really.

I've wasted alot more money than that, on alot more frivolous things....;)

The turning point may come when aftermarket stocks are readily available for the T3 from multiple sources...

BTW, a T3 laminate stainless is over $900.

this is how i see it you want a sako for half the money buy a tikka and for that matter if you want a anchutz rimfire sporter for half the money buy a CZ i have or have owned all the above, no doubt the sako is purdy nicer wood and the bolt a little stronger but an average out of the box tikka will match a average out of the box sako in acuracy

The new Sako 85's are selling for closer to $1700 now.

They can also be had for $1000 - $1400 if you look in the right spots.;)

P&D has a Sako 75 SS .270wsm for $999 , and a Tikka LS .300wsm for $999. Which one would you buy?

I have a old[mini mauser action] .222 pre -vixen Sako with the deluxe french walnut stock and rosewood fore end cap. Also has gold engraved? acorns and oak leaves on the bottom of the mag.Real accurate and almost too nice to hunt with.................Harold

I own a Sako 75 Finnlight and have handled a couple of tikka stainless synthetics. As far as being able to fire and shoot accurately.....well they both do that. I personally drew the line on comfort and pride of ownership. I am not saying anything bad about Tikkas but I love the handling, fit, finish, safety, stock design and all metal components on my Sako. I guess the bottom line is which fits the budget. I bought a Sako and never looked back.

it's all about the finish. The Sako is old-world craftsmanship, the t3 is new-world mechanized mass production. They both shoot and perform well. They're an Acura to a Honda, Infinity to Nissan, Lexus to Toyota.

Pretty much

Im sure a T3 wont shoot any worse than my 85, but I enjoy the Sako. Things like being allowed to top feed a magazine without removing it from the rifle, being able to open the bolt on safe, no plastic parts...it makes it worth it to me. That being said I wouldnt probably buy a Sako 85 for $1700+tax...

The Sako's are out of my price range but I'd certainly like to own one.

Stainless Hunter, 338wm. .....not that I've thought about it. :)

Maybe someday.

I tried the Tikka didnt fit or feel good to me..the Sako fit me like a glove..it shoots like a dream, smooth action ...flawless feed...1/2" 3 shot group consistently the trigger breaks like glass..smooth and clean...

To me it wasnt even close..I got the Sako 85 s/s synthetic love it who cares about $700..I have a shooter for life...
