I have recently aquired a Sako stainless synthetic in 338. The butt has a hollow sound to it and I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for what I could use to fill it to dampen this rather unnatural sound. I was thinking of some sort of spray in foam insulation. Thanks.

Any kind of close-celled foam will work to help a bit, if the butt is actually hollow.....have a .416 rem Sako with factory synthetic stock from 1995 and it doesn't sound hollow like my ramline stocks do......

hs4570..............yer mileage may vary

As an aside, the structural foam works great to hold a mercury recoil reducer in place without unwanted movement or noise.

No it's not an after market stock. It's the sako stock with the rubber grip, and it sure sounds hollow to me. I've had 2 older Sakos with synthetic stocks that did not sound hollow.
Thanks for all of your input. I'll have a go at it with the structural foam.
