Any Sako TRG-22 owners can suggest the best scope mounts for this rifle for a 30mm scope tube? Sako tactical mounts are really expensive and I was told require the picatinny interface so 2 things to purchase. Is this correct? Are Optilock the most cost effective way to go? Thanks for any advice.

No the SAKO one piece mount includes the rings, but is pricey at $400, you can obtain a Near pic base for about $175, and get some very good quality 30mm rings for about the same and end up paying less.

I've got a 42, and I would have to agree with releg. Mine came with the Sako mounts but, if I was going to buy mounts I'll go with near. I have near mounts on my rem700. No compaints at all

I have the Sako Opticlocks QD base on mine. The QD bit means nothing to me, but I love the rings, super strong and stable, and no marking of the scope. Also no fitting needs to be done to the rings as the inserts correct for any minor screwups.

I think you'll find that the Near base is now available for $159.

I went with a Near tapered base and Nighforce rings from TSE . I also have another scope that goes on my Sako with Near rings. Its pretty scary how repeatable the system is after I take it off and put it back on ( you need a good torque wrench though )

I have a TRG 21 with Sako Optilocks on it and for a .308 you need nothing more. On the other hand if you want to spend the money I would go with Near rings and base, I have them on my TRG 42 and they are as bulletproof as they are heavy but for a heavy duty rig I wouldn't feel right with anything else.

I just got my TRG22 and put a Near Pic rail on it, then mounted up the NF steel rings to support the NXS....solid and works great...but still a little $$$.

We carry the Warne Tactical bases which for the money are hard to beat $110 compared to $175 for the Near. The Warne has an integral recoil ug to take the shear load off the small 6-48 screws. Couple that order with a set of TPS rings steel or aluminum added to the same order and you save yourself more shipping costs. We carry both product lines.

Its too bad they all use the 6-48 screws but that can always be changed by a custom smith ....upgrade to the 8-40 screws.

For about $200 plus gst and shipping you can have a top quality mounting system. You can go with steel or 7075AL rings (too save weight - yet maintain strength).
