Are you happy with your rifle? I have wanted a .338 lapua for a while now and I really like the way the TRG feels. I found one in stock for 3999.99 (black & blued model) My only problem is I priced out building my own and not sure if the TRG is worth the money.

Surgeon XL action with bottom metal to take AI mags 2200
27" Match barrel 450
Timney trigger 150
Manners T5-A stock 850
Gunsmith chamber and install 350
Cerakote finish 200
Total 4200

The TRG appeals to me for two reasons one I can buy it right now and enjoy shooting the rifle without the wait for parts and work. Also if I find out the .338 Lapua is not for me I figure the TRG would sell quicker for closer to my investment price. Once I add the Near rail to the TRG it actually cost's more than the custom.

The custom appeals to me cause it's a custom and I can build it to my exact specs.

So for you guys that have had your TRG 42's for awhile now. Do you find it lacks anything? Have you ever wished you went custom?

Thanks.

I have a TRG 42 in .338 Lapua. It shoots every bit as good as the custom rifles I have and as you stated they are easier to get rid of if its not your thing. I also shoot 250 gr Scenars/Rutumbo. The down fault is if you want any Sako assesories such as the Bipod it is big $$.

Love my 338 also. I was in the same boat as you. Went with the trg 42 and they had a deal where the bipod was free so that was the deal breaker for me. The only problem is I want the trg22 now.

I really like my green phosphate TRG42 .338L. I have a Near rail and Alphamount with an S&B 5-25x56 on it and a Roedale brake. I'm getting 2970 fps with Re 25 and 250 Scenars. My TRG22 is setup the same and I would never part with either of these rifles.

Love mine too. TRG-42 w Near 10 deg. mount and brake. USO 5-25x58 on top w H37 reticle.

Check these out closely. I don't know what custom features you're looking for but unless you're Quasimodo incarnate you can adjust the TRG to your liking, including its marvelous trigger, right down to a few oz. and adjustable in every conceivable way.

I purchased the bi-pod just to complete the rig. They're rugged and all that but honestly not nearly worth the price. The wide fore end is well suited to using a bag or other support. Figure on a shim for the cheek piece ($75.00) and a few shims ($25.00 ea) for the stock may suit you.

You should download the TRG-42 manual from Sako's website. The construction of these things is quite unique. The barrel/action is mounted on an aluminum frame which the synthetic stock and fore end, in turn, secure to.

Downside seems to be that you can get a custom gun built for the same price,, or is that the upside  I can't remember which :D.

The advantages of the sako over the custom are it will remain accurate in a wider variety of temperature variations, they were designed to be used in combat which means less cleaning required while maintaining their accuracy, and they also will be much more accurate with a variety of different ammos. Pobably the most underrated rifle on the planet. The sako has no equal for the price, when all things are considered.

Try the shooting edge in Calgary. Their list price is a bit less and they do deal might be able to buy it for 3750 if you talk nice to them.
