Hi All,
Here I need some advice: Is it worth spending extra $600 on a SAKO TRG 22 Phosphatised Action & Barrel or should I go with a Blued Action & Barrel, save money for a fine scope & other accessories. It'll be primarily used for target shooting.
I believe technically both are same made with the same metal & process and have the same stock (black stealth if I'm not wrong) but, what is the difference between a phosphatised & blued processing???
Cheers

The manganese phosphate is a Black matte finish and the blueing will be shiny. Blueing is a cheaper method for a factory as there is no blasting involved, and they can put polished machine parts in the tanks. If its $600 your saving buy the blued model and we can parkerize it Matte Black like factory for $200.00 so you get the same finish at a lesser value. These guns are made from the same materials so no issue there. Either way it would be cheaper and if you got sick of the blueing well you can give us a call and we can do it a variety of colors or just parkerize it like a factory finish. Hope the info helps.

That's quite a bit of info & very helpful indeed. Thanks, I would certainly give it a thought once I buy this rifle. And I guess the stock would be same on both.

Or you could buy my green phosphate version 308 with less than 100 rounds for the price of a blued one. Have two listed for sale in the ee. One used one new

From a technical point of view, the blasted and phosphated finish is easier (and therefore cheaper) to do then a polished and blued finish. It's a marketing thing. Matte finishes are much "cooler" then blued finishes. Unless you have some kind of "spec ops" mission in mind, the targets won't care. Save the $600 for better glass. - dan
