Still looking to get a low budget 1911 for holstering and not worry about scratching the finish. This will be my workhorse pistol.

Ive heard great things about both of these pistols and the price is somewhat close too.

Theres the SAM 1911 Enhanced 1911 9mm made in the philiphines. The pistol is suppose to have a nicer finish, nicer stock trigger (compared to stock Norc), and low profile combat sights.

Im thinking i might try out one of the Armco tuned 1911s but i havent heard about how the tuned trigger compares to other low budget 1911s....

For those with both of these pistols, which one is better?

will fitting aftermarket sights on the Norinco be troublesome?

I've been thinking over the same question. Unfortunately the SAMs just took a 10% (aprox) price increase. I think the new price on the SAM pistols is moving me towards the Norc. Wish I could get a 10% raise form my employer!

Looked more like a 5% increase on the lower end models I was considering (went up about $40 per model iirc?). Not sure about the Titan or Thunderbolt increases - were they 10%?

Save your money and buy one good gun, you are looking at $469.00 from ARMCO for a NP29. You could buy a new Kimber S.S.II 9mm from
AL Flaherty's a supporting dealer new for $1099.00. Or go to Armco and get a Spartan for $799.00 yes he has them in 9mm. No point is wasting your money an NP you will never get you money out of when you look for an upgrade.

I would go with the Armco.

It has been tuned by a 1911 expert and it's made of better parts. The SAM is cosmetically nicer, but functionally weaker, and 1911s benefit greatly from expert massaging.

This is an extreme no-brainer IMO.

I don't know about you, but for $100 I have my doubts about what actually is done by Armco on these guns.

There was a thread about this awhile ago that mysteriously got shut down.

It should be pointed out that the 9mm SAM has a hammer forged 4140 Stainless Steel slide and barrel as well as a 4140 SS cast frame. This should be robust to say the least, not sure about the internals but time will tell.

I own colt and sig 1911s.

Im planning on getting the NP29 as a holster beater... you will never see me holster either of those :)

Its practically slicing a hot girl's face.. I WILL NEVER DO IT!

I know which thread you are referring to..

I believe the thread was saying how Armco inspects the pistol and if its "good enough" it will be marked and solds as an armco tuned Np29.

Essentially, its 100 dollars to ensure you dont get a lemon.

However, if this 100 dollars includes dehorning and actually cleaning up factory grease etc, i think its worth it.

Most of the small parts are made by metal injection moulding (MIM). I'm not sure what to make of that. I don't know if they can be hardened or how hard or tough the steel powder used to make them are.

Gunnar...have you had a SAM apart and if so what did you find inside,I just bought one and the outside looks good...just curious.

Or BUY a STI Spartan in 9mm for around $700-800.... Fiber sights and all. Smooth slide and trigger right out of the BOX!

Oh by the way, i have shot STOCK norcs and owned them also and also shot and played with ARMCO ones... there is a very big difference in feel and smoothness of action. Makes the norc feel like my STI :) Its money well spent.

On and STI DOES make a 9mm in Stainless :)
