SAM 1911s - any feedback?

Hello all!

I am thinking about buying a basic 1911 .45 with a 4.25 inch barrel in order to keep the round count down on my 'fancy' stainless guns (Dlask and Dan Wesson Bobtail) - something I can put a lot of rounds through to keep practicing and not have to worry about wear and tear. I want to keep my 'nice' guns nice and only shoot them when I want to, while training myself on a 'daily driver', so to speak.

I noticed that on the Wolverine site accessible through CGN here they are advertising a SAM 1911 .45 with a 4.25 inch barrel for $449.00 (along with other SAM 1911 models).

Can anyone here provide any informed feedback on these SAM 1911s, and the Commander 4.25 specifically? Are they reliable and well made?

I appreciate that you tend to get what you pay for, and am under no delusions here, if you know what I mean. But I could appreciate a gun like this if it was reasonably well made and reliable for the money.

Thanks.

The Sam fit and finish is pretty damn good for the price point. Much better than the Norc. The sights on the tactical model are much nicer as well.

I have handled one, but not shot it, but I am impressed.

The other consideration is the Rock Island Arms, but they are in the $600 price range. They get rave reviews in the states theough.

I am considering picking up a 9mm 1911 in the near future, but haven't decided between the RIA or SAM.

I can see myself going with the SAM though. The price is hard to beat.

yap they are way better then norkies, nice even finish, tolerances on them are really high, slide to frame fit is really tight to be honest tights one i've seen on non custom 1911. As on race-gunner said looking at it "good gun to build on". Will you be using it with the holster much?

I read your review and must say "well done"! I do have a few questions, has anyone tried these with anything other than FMJ? I like to use 200grn lead SWC so I wonder how those feed. And just to confirm, it doesn't have the firing pin safety?
