Howdy-
beaut weather down here since a polar blast lowered the snow substantially... nearly all gone but on the alps now.
Covids been interesting to say the least , especially in regards to hunting plans for many in Aus, let alone Canada! i can only imagine by the threads on how many of you missed out on a hunt.
In this down time its got me thinking, after being on CGN for a number of years now, i love the vibe an knowledge here, but anyway i figure that alot of CGNrs hunters hadnt really heard too much about the Sambar deer prior to my flood of posts over time..
an i got interested in making a bit of a dream a reality in regards to 'Guiding' hunters for Sambar deer, an thought that to save the riff raff of local city based hunters in my areas that i would prefer to aim at Internationals who are aware of the Sambar deer and just how tricky they are to hunt...
I wanna show the world Sambar !
I wonder how many of You fellas would have interest in visiting Australia and dropping by for a Guided Sambar hunt for as many days whenever it happend to be and for meto be somewhat setup as a outfitter so one doesnt need to travel with rifles or items..?
There is a whole notebook of ideas from accomodation to hunting areas to the grey areas and loop holes that surround Guiding in Australia.... its not as technical as USA etc..but ther is some fine print .
i would guess the cost of said adventure on the sambar would be a decider an i cant really see it bein a huge cost for even a week of hunting/ accomodated etc an we cant really charge per animal, but would be some trophy prep fee (maybe i can taxidermy it for you) or have it ready to send etc.
lot of finer details there which i could put together for anyone interested more?
The hunting, well i can cater for mostly anyone who is willing to have a go.
the deer live in fairly steep but not large mountains and gulleys, the bush isnt so thick since the fires but it coming back,an will be hunting unburnt country often.
they are very elusive and dont live by the clock like other deer
are very weather dependant on what they are doing hour to hour
stag hunting is quite difficult over a weekend, you would likely need a week and for me to do my homework to get a 'big one' but with sambar any mature animal is a trophy regardless if 25 inch or 30 inch. 25-26 inches the stags start to look nice an well representive.
hunting often good all year but alot of snakes in summer, april thru june is nice, july august good for 'rut' (but they dont rut like other deer- will rut thru to oct)
septembr october november good weather..
Not sure on the MEAT side of life and taking it back on the Plane?? i can look into it but im not sure at all.
Stalking is nice to walk around the bush and explore a bit but the best way is to glass, sit and wait very productive late afternoons, an cross gulley stalking/glassing.-- some degree of fitness, the more the better-
can do day hunts , morning, arvos or back pack potentially if you really want to chase big stags.
is also an option for Fallow deer hunts through April or all year - hard antler Feb to Sept.
plenty to think about, if there is some kind of interest i can make up a proper detail page, give yas my email address and go about the legalities on email..
heres a few deers an sambar huntin pics
fallow on private land is nice 'easy hunting'
Typical sambar habitat- thickish looking bush
big mature sambar hind - can shoot as many of these as ya want really- in the name of conservation we can hunt several areas and take meat animals to help with the managing of populations.
