Sanded my Norinco 1911 slide, how to seal it?

I recently sanded down the slide on my Norinco 1911, my original plan was to sand it smooth and re-blue it, but I kinda like the look of it two tone, I just don't want it to rust, so obviously I need to seal it or something. In the past I have used Blue Magic to polish and protect but it has a tendency to make things into a mirror shine, right now the slide has more of a semi-polished almost matte look to it and I would like to keep that.

So what product or method can you recommend?

Just keep it oiled and it'll stay nice looking. For bright finished metal like this do make sure that the last thing it gets touched by when putting it away is a shop rag that is slightly oily after giving it a wipe. That'll keep your acidic finger oils from being the last thing in contact with the metal.

At worst you may need the occasional touch up with a bit of fine grit wetordry paper and oil to remove any slight stains on the bright area.

Matte Clear ALUMA-HYDE® II

They can't ship it to Canada, they say. You might have to go to the U.S. to get it.

I tried this one (the dark grey color) about 2 years ago. It couldn't stay on under Birchwood Casey Gun Blaster/Degreaser and came off. So it was much weaker than Duracoat.

Not sure whether its formula has changed since then, though.

I've clear coated brushed aluminium for electronics front panels with different things over the years. A lot of coatings will alter the sheen and sparkle of the sanded finish of the raw metal in a nasty way leaving it a dull grey.

We need to oil the guns after cleaning to keep the blued areas from rusting anyway. It's just as easy to oil the polished sides at the same time.
