I live in Alberta and have a uncle in BC that would like to obtain a male sandhill crane to be stuffed. I know there is no season in BC and Alberta. I heard they are open in Saskatchewan. If anyone thinks they might be able to help me out send me a PM.

Thank you

Yup, you can get one by pass shooting anywhere in S Saskatchewan along the S Sask river, or along Last Mountain Lake, or the Quill Lakes in the period mid- Sept. to Mid- Oct.
No guide required.

There are still rumors floating around about a crane season in Ontario... the population is exploding and there is alot of crop damage happening.

Sitting in my treestand this morning in my pasture, a pair of them landed in my dugout anout 20 yards from me. The noise was deafening in the still of the morning. No jokes, my ears were ringing.

If you want to hear what noise from cranes is really like, go to Texas in the winter. I guess all the cranes from at least western Canada, winter in south-central Texas. We slept in our trailer in a camp sight where the sky was litterally filled with cranes in the morning when they left the water they were on and went out to feed.
We've seen big flocks coming into the Quill Lakes, also, but nothing like the concentrations in Texas.

There is a pothole lake, we hunt in Ontario for ducks and geese, that is a roosting spot for cranes... 5-10'000 of them! In the morning when they drift to head out to the field's to feed, they pick up in small flocks and spiral upward until they get into a windrift that will take them to where they want to go... Thousands of birds spiralling around a calling with that booming, prehistoric call... It is like a rushing tornado of sight and sound... Incredible, Awesome sight... Sends chills down my back every time!
