Hello:

Looking for some help. Any one heard of a santa barbra action having a larger thread diamiter than a standard mauser 98. They are the same thread pitch as my mauser 98 and the barrel fits perfect onto my 1200 mauser 98. but there is excessive play on my santa barbra action. which is suspose to be the same.

Probably just manufacturing variation. I have noticed that the Spanish actions used by Parker Hale were less than consistant.

I tend to agree. Keep in mind that Santa Barbera sold actions to other companies that resold them, not just Parker Hale. The PH ones usually are pretty good, but there was some stuff that was sold off when PH went bankrupt, and it made it to the market without hardening. Sold in the states mostly (Navy Arms had some on sale a LONG time ago), and used by assorted gunsmiths who never checked for hardening I guess. I figure that's where all these stories of "soft" PH actions come from, but maybe I'm wrong, loathe though I am to admit it. In terms of the threads, I have probably 6 or 8 Mauser variation actions in the safe right now, and I know for a fact that not all threaded barrels will fit all the actions. FWIW - dan
