While I was out today, Santa Simonov paid an early visit to the Vicar's house. I wonder what it is?
You will shoot your eye out!!!!

Hahahahaha! That's exactly what my daughter said! Funny, we're watching that right now.You will shoot your eye out!!!!
Didn't shake it, but it did smell kinda funky, like an oily greasy smell....Did you shake it??

Unfortunately my stocking isn't big enough for a 1200 case of 7.62x39.

I'll find out in the morning I guess.

Yay! It was an SKS! Boy was I suprised!
OK, I told a little Christmas lie. I actually bought it 3 weeks ago. It's a '54 Tula with a birch stock. It's a refurb, but all the serials match except for the trigger group and the gas assembly which have the serials written on with one of those vibrating pencil thingies. I was pleasantly surprised to find hardly any cosmoline at all on it, more like motor oil which wiped off pretty easily.
Everything is painted black, even the bolt. They actually did an excellent job, looks like a finish that is good and durable, not just "BBQ paint".I'm going to strip the paint off of the bolt and any moving parts though. I don't need chipped-off paint mixing with oil and gumming up the works. Maybe if I get motivated, I'll strip the bayonet and bolt carrier and buff 'em up.
I got at Elwood Epp's for $179 plus tax, and came with a cleaning kit, metal oil bottle and pouch, sling, ammo pouch and a couple of stripper clips. The guys up there were fantastic to deal with. Plus they sell 7.62x39 in 10 round strippers for $2.50 each. I bought a few of those to get me shooting until I can afford a case.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Oh ya, I forgot to mention, Epp's had a special: buy an SKS and get free Daschund. The Weapons and Wieners Sale I believe it was called. LOL. I couldn't wrap the dog though, I tried but she wouldn't stay still long enough.
BTW Woodbeef: Thanks for the tip on Survivors SKS Forum about going to Epp's. Dealing with Paul was a pleasure and most helpful.
