1. What has to be done to an SAP6 to hunt with it?
2. What can be done to mag to limit for migratory birds?
3. Is there a mag limit for other game? if so then what is it?

Shotguns must be plugged to three rounds for any game, not just migratory birds. After that you're good to go. Not sure if the barrel/choke combination on that gun will be good for hunting though.

Not in all provinces, it would be wise to check the regulations for each province you choose to hunt. Although migratory birds are federally regulated and it is 3rounds across the nation and all of North America due to the treaty our nations signed back in the 1930's.

Actually, for migratory birds, they need to be plugged for two rounds, not three. Two in the mag tube, one in the chamber. As the previous poster said, it varies for big game depending on the province.

As for the SAP6, you'd need to plug the magazine so it holds no more than 2 rounds, but with the 11.5" open choke barrel, I think anything flying is pretty safe regardless of the mag capacity. ;)

As far as I know, the alteration for migratory birds doesn't have to be permanent, like with semi auto CF mags.

So what I understand is that the SAP6 is not restricted yet I can't take it into the woods as is? What can I hunt with a full mag?

All the paper targets, clays, watermelon, pop cans.... you want. Go into the bush with a shotgun that can hold more than three round total and you are just asking for a chance run in with a CO.

You would have to check the regulations for your province. I believe here in NB for big game and possibly upland game you would be ok. I'm not sure when it comes to upland game because I leave the plugs in my guns.

Why not use the gun for what it was designed for and get a proper hunting gun for hunting?
Those are nice bangers for fly fishing in griz country or home defense, could try upland in thick bush but beyond that? Just a noise maker

I can't speak to either Ontario or Alberta's regulations, but in many places so long as the firearm is non restricted and the projectiles are legal for the season and species being hunted you're good to go. Super short barrels are a definite handicap for wingshooting, I have carried short barreled shotguns for hunting and while easier to carry through the alder thickets but they don't swing as nice as a conventional gun.
The sap6 with its large box magazine and sights/optics that everyone mounts on them probably wouldn't be any easier than conventional gun with 26" barrel which would make wingshooting easier. I wouldn't choose a shotgun with a shorter than 20" barrel for hunting personally.

Is there restrictions on barrel length for hunting?

No restriction on barrel length for hunting that I know of, but a 11.4" barrel with a fixed cylinder choke is going to be pretty much ineffective for anything other than upland birds that flush at your feet. I do see that Tactical Imports offers a 14" barrel for the Sap6 that takes rem chokes and would help a little, but for waterfowl shotguns most hunters prefer a 26-30" barrel length. Sap6 is not the right tool for the job. Upside is you now have a reason to purchase another shotgun.
