I saw a photo on a poster for the SAR Tech rifle - I believe the designation is C23. The previous rifle was a Ruger M77 in an orange stock, I am assuming the rifle remains a Ruger but is in a new nifty chassis.

Does anyone know more on this chassis and where to find it?

Years back I saw a "C23" that was supposed to be a Ruger 77 but was actually a Rem 700 in a synthetic stock that was spray painted bright orange. I too had always understood the SAR Tech rifle was a Ruger 77 but there were a few variants in the mix.

The one I saw was a Ruger 77, with a factory wood stock, painted orange, hinged so the butt folded along the receiver, and a short barrel chambered in .30/06. While this rifle initially struck me as interesting, it had the appearance of being cobbled together in someone's basement. Aesthetics aside, it seemed to fill its role in a suitable fashion. If a chassis type stock improves the suitability of the rifle to its role, so much the better.

I was amused by the logic behind the choice of the .30/06, which was that the rifle was sufficiently powerful to put down grizzlies and polar bears that female medics of small stature could still handle. From what I know of the SAR Tech course, the gals that graduate are physically tough enough to handle any rife that any young adult male athlete can handle. That said, the .30/06, in a light, short carbine, is a top choice for that duty.

I'd suspect you are correct there Boomer, that SAR Tech position is not easy to attain, and I think you could say with some certainty that anyone who does is going to be quite fit and strong.

One of those army posters that shows all the different personal weapons systems shows the rifle in a substantially different stock than the C19. It will be awhile before I make it to the Regina armoury again but I swear it 's different. Almost looks like one of the MDT chassis. Pretty sure it was the same 308 calibre as the C19.

Hey! Im a weapon tech in the Army and i have yet to see anything more than just the photo of the C23. However i think it looks awesome and i want one.

From my research it seems to be a Cadex OT Core, Tikka.

https://www.cadexdefence.com/new-tikka-configurations/ If you look at the very bottom youll see the similarities. there are a few differences as well however. But if you go to the Cadex OT CORE Page, you will see it was available in a hunter orange.

as for gun itself, its probably a single batch made at Colt Canada that left extra length for the muzzle device.

Im unable to source the stock or pistol grip sadly.

Can we see the rest of that page? :)

Looks like a good setup.

Many years ago (late 90's, early 2000's) I was at a search and rescue convention in Kelowna. The SAR-tech's had some equipment on display. The rifle they had they described as a survival rifle. It was a Remington 7400 (may have been a 7600). It had a short barrel and a folding stock. They said they rarely used it but always packed it when in polar bear country. I asked about brown bears and they said they didn't worry about them too much. They had bear spray and the rifle was always available in their aircraft.
