Sask Elk Hudson Bay Area Help

Hey everyone, looking for some advice from people that regularly hunts the agricultural/forest boundaries in 48, with 56, 57 and the south and north boundary of 49. I have been hunting for a while, but this is the first time going up there. I have done a quite a bit of research but one thing I need help with is landowner permission. I have heard from a few people that it near impossible to get permission. I will phone the RMs this week to get their take (also have a few questions about their maps) on it. I would normally start phoning around to ask for permission but if there is no use then I don't won't to waste time on it. If it is no go I will backpack on crown land. I plan on going up there in a few weeks for an overnight backpack to check things out. Thanks.

It's not really that hard to get permission. Especially if you're going out there now before harvest starts. The area does get hammered pretty hard by hunters though. A bit of respect goes a long ways. Buying a round in the porcupine plain bar might be a good place to start. Also hit coffee row early in the morning. There are elk in the area for sure but they're constantly on the move and get chased into the Forrest areas early in the season. I'll pm you a name to get you started.

I have hunted those zones since I was a kid. Lots of opportunities in crown land and the wildlife lands in those zones. Backpacking in and tenting it is the way to go if you’re fit enough or quad in and set up camp and hike from there. Between crown, wildlife and my own land I’ve never had to go ask permission so I don’t have any experience with that.

Took me abit, 1st I retired to the area and have met alot of landowners, did all the footwork and have several properties to hunt on now with written permission. In person meeting landowners goes a long way ... I have also met some good friends now as well. When harvest starts however, they move into Porcupine and/or the community pastures, then spraying by plane follows so you may have some tight hunting dates ... Good luck with it.
